You can also remove an assembly from the GAC by using Windows Explorer.
For .NET 3.5 or previous version, using windows explorer go to C:\Windows\Assembly, select the assembly and delete.
For .NET 4.0 or later version, using windows explorer go to C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\GAC_MSIL and delete the folder.
